I have decided to start using Scrum with TFS and write tutorial on how to use it. In this tutorial I will cover not only TFS Scrum 1.0 template but also Scrum methodology which I will most likely present from my point of view which is mainly BI/Data Warehouse projects.
To get an overview of Scrum you can visit Scrum (agile) and Kimball Data Warehousing
For the purpose of this tutorial I will use TFS web version so it can be used by everyone but most developers who use Visual Studio should find it very similar so hopefully steps are easy to re-produce with VS 2010.
Cost of TFS
You can buy TFS (Someone mentioned on Microsoft forum 500$ with 5 Cals + 500$ for extra CAL). You can try TFS 2012 Express (I'm not sure about limitations) or try TFS 2010 Hosting - 30 days for free (DiscountAsp) which costs for small number of users 20$ per month and you can try it out for 30 days for free. I use it myself with 2 users and I don't have to worry about hardware and maintenance.
Install TFS Scrum 1.0
I followed Discount asp link http://blog.discountasp.net/team-foundation-server-hosting-adding-the-scrum-custom-process-template/ and it worked for me.
TFS Scrum Tutorial
Now that we covered the basics let's move on to the actual tutorial.
Set up Iterations and Areas - In this tutorial I will show you how to set up iterations using web version of TFS 2010.
