In this tutorial I will show you how to use Tile By Visualization using Power View which is a self service BI tool introduced by Microsoft.
I will be using Microsoft Online Version of PowerView which you can access using this link
I select Contoso Energy tab and click Contoso Energy Blank which will allow me to create a new PowerView report.
In order to modify the report I will click edit report.
In my first step I will use Production Status - select Forecast Sum field and Time - select Year field. Next I will drag Year and Forecast Sum on the report.
At the right side I have an option tile by and I will use Business Unit - select Name and drag it to tile by.
As we can see at the picture below Power View creates a tile with business name at the top. The values inside the table can be filtered out by the name at the top - below we have an example by Rockies Name.
In Design mode at the left side we have an option tile visualizations where we have Tap Strip and Cover Flow. This options change the visualizations. The Tab Strip shows visualization like in example by Rockies Name and the Cover Flow show visualization at the picture below.
I will show another example with using tile by but this time I will remove name and drag the image from Business Unit field. The result of this example are images with names. When we use Cover Flow option in Design mode we have got images but without names.
Tile By Visualizations means that we can filter anything inside the tile element.I will show next example using Tap Strip. In previous table I will add Name and Wells Count from Asset field and Name from Business Unit. Wells Count by Name I will change to a Column which present picture below. When we click at the each image, everything inside the table is changing. We have also blank data with unknown wells.
As you can see Tile can be very useful when we want to filter the data inside an element but also we can add multiple elements inside the tile. Limit of the tile is that we cannot select an all element but hopefully this will be improved in next version.
