In this tutorial I will show you basics of using Power View which is a self service BI tool introduced by Microsoft.
I will be using Microsoft Online Version of PowerView which you can access using this link
I select Contoso Energy tab and click Contoso Energy Blank which will allow me to create a new PowerView report.
In order to modify the report I will click edit report.
As we can see at the picture below, on the right side we have got our fields that we can use.
I will use Time and select Year field to display the field on the report I will drag Year and drop in on the report. We can resize it, use pop out to temporarily display the report on full page and we can also sort values in columns.
In the next step from Business Unit section we add name field and from Production Status we add Forecast Sum field.
Below we can see the result presented as a table.
We have a table and we can change it to a matrix and and we can re-arrange the field by putting them to either rows or columns groups.
For instance if we want to display name in columns we can just drag it to columns.
Using the toolbar we can select how we want to display total and we have four options: None, Row Groups, Column Groups and Both Groups.
We can also change visualization of data and the example below I changed Matrix to Column. On the right side we have options to change the settings - the way we want it.
In next example I will move Name field to Horizontal Multiples
Below you can see that Name values were split horizontally into multiple charts.
If we want to add another element on the report we can drag and drop fields into empty space.
When we use a chart we also get a Layout option. We can customized a chart - by low is example that show how to remove chart title.
We can also show data labels for each column
