In this Excel Tutorial I will show you how to use Left Function using Excel 2010.
For purpose of this tutorial I will use packing slip template.
Left Function returnees the characters from the left side of the value. I will show base on the example.
I will returnee cells from First Name and Surname. To do this I type equal and LEFT next I open parenthesis and select cells with value.

I place comma and after value I place the number of characters I will returnee. In this case it will be just one (1).
I close parenthesis and click ENTER.

Left function returnees me the forest character of my Name.

You can find Left Function if you go to Formulas tab, click Text and choose the Left function.

In the Function Arguments window I can select the arguments.
In the Text I select my value. In ma case it will be my Surname.

In number of character I type one (1). Click OK.

In this way Left function returnees me the forest character of my Surname.

I will show one more location where you can find Left function. I go to Insert Function and from category select Text. Then you can see below Left function. Click OK.

I get the same Function Arguments window like in previous example.

I hope this Excel tutorial was helpful.
Take Care,
Katie and Emil.
