In this Excel Tutorial I will show you how to use Concatenate function and ampersand '&' - using Excel 2010.
To Concatenate value and display them in one cell you can use ampersand or concatenate function. I will show base on the example.
Below is my invoice. In the bill to: I have Name and Surname. I would like to display them together in one cell.
To do that I go to formula bar type equal and select cell with Name and place ampersand.
To continue in the same formula bar I select Surname and click ENTER.
As you can see below is the result. My Name and Surname are display together in one cell.
You can see that there is no space between First Name and Surname. I can add space by placing double quote after ampersand. Next I add place double quote again and one more ampersand. Click ENTER. Space should be added between First Name and Surname.
There is another way to get the same result. The function Concatenate can be use to achieve exactly the same result.
I go to Formula bar type equal - Concatenate and select insert function (fx).
In Function Arguments window I can select arguments.
In text1 I will select - Name.
In text2 I will select - Surname. Click OK and we get exactly the same result like in previous example.
In this example I need to place space, also. I can do this like before but instead of ampersand there will be comma.
I type double quote-space-double quote and in this example comma.
The result should be the same. In this way you can concatenate values in Excel 2010.
I hope this Excel Tutorial was helpful.
