Enjoying work is hugely important for many of us and I like when my work makes sense (I or someone benefits from it, and ideally both sides), is achievable, challenging and fun!
To make my work like this I have decided to set myself a challenge!
Starting from today Tuesday 21st of April 2015 I will spend the next 365 days creating one new "lesson" a day (on average).
Who will benefit from it?
- Our existing and new members (based on ideas shared with us
- Katie (I will do videos that Katie wants... knowing I do it for Katie makes me particularly happy and motivated :)
- Myself, so I can retire from contracting world and work full time on the website and repeat the challenge every year.
What classifies as a lesson?
- One video lesson.
- One text based lesson.
- One Webinar Recording (including new versions of same topic).
- One Test or Exam.
- One practice page.
Is it achievable? More than achievable. I remember doing 3 videos a day for 1 month a while back... I still can't believe I stopped creating new content for so long.
Is it going to be fun? Of course, I love sharing knowledge and learning something new every day and teaching is truly the best way to learn, especially when I want to know everything I can on a specific topic.
My To Do List
- Stored procedure
- SSAS Tutorial

365 Days challenge journal
Day 112 - Monday 10th of August 2015
Entry: I really want to make this challenge a success and I realized I do too many things (1.5h commute doesn't help) and I procrastinate too much. Solution? I employed web developer which moved things forward but didn't help with my challenge, I read time management book, started making improvements, and recently I employed a virtual assistant that should help me out a lot by reducing my admin time and editing the videos I do. I hope to sort out my time related challenges within 1 to 2 weeks. I set myself a target of 10 videos by the end of August. After that I hope to do 1.5 videos a day to catch up.
Day 36 - Tuesday 26th of May 2015
Entry: I'm way behind schedule due to new contract and decision to completely change our way we offer our membership, so I only have done 1 new video but I will catch up :)
Day 14 - Monday 4th of May 2015
Entry: It's Bank holiday in UK but it's time to catch up with and today I will try to focus on DIY projects and add a few DIY Tasks that will count as one lesson each.
Day 13 - Sunday 3rd of May 2015
Entry: Back to work. I've re-designed courses pages but no new lessons appeared.
Day 12 - Saturday 2nd of May 2015
Entry: Weather is not great but Motor Museum close to Windreme was amazing. I particularly liked small UFO car :)
Day 11 - Friday 1st of May 2015
Entry: Day off in Windermere. Beautiful places around the lakes!
Day 10 - Thursday 30th of April 2015
Entry: Another half day off to do floating session which was relaxing but my cold came back which resulted in practically full day off.
Day 9 - Wednesday 29th of April 2015
Entry: I feel better today but still need one extra day to recover before I can record new videos, which is a good excuse to work on course pages so our courses display in a more attractive way.
Day 8 - Tuesday 28th of April 2015
Entry: I'm off sick but have enough energy to do some work except recording new videos due to my voice (at least not in the morning). I will also have to cancel tomorrow's webinar that supposed to count as one lesson as I won't have enough time to prepare and may not fit enough to do it.
Day 7 - Monday 27th of April 2015
Entry: I have recorded output paremeter video in the morning but then I got a fever and had to lie in the bed so I wasn't able to edit the video and publish it.
Day 6 - Sunday 26th of April 2015
Entry: Another 1h 20 minutes of squash preparing to beat my friend Avi :)
Day 5 - Saturday 25th of April 2015
Entry: 1h 20 minutes of squash preparing to beat my friend Avi :)
Day 4 - Friday 24th of April 2015
Entry: The new video is Parameters in stored procedures. I'm one video behind.
Day 3 - Thursday 23rd of April 2015
Entry: Today is a half-day off, which we used to enjoy relaxation in a floating tank to release our tension.
Day 2 - Wednesday 22nd of April 2015
Entry: Second video is on time and it is called how to create a simple stored procedure.
Day 1 - Tuesday 21st of April 2015
Entry: First day is a bit of a cheat as I have already created something several days ago in preparation for this challenge but I didn't do anything else for 3 days so starting today with this new video makes perfect sense :)
Here is the video: What is a stored procedure?
